This page provides general information about the purpose of this site, the primary links found within this site and the facilities this site offers to authors and reviewers of manuscripts submitted to Icarus.

This site (icarus.cornell.edu) is maintained by the Cornell University editorial office to facilitate the submission of manuscripts and to provide general information about Icarus. In addition this site serves as an aid to communications among authors, reviewers, editors and the editorial office. Comments and suggestions from you regarding this site are very welcome (icarus at astro.cornell.edu).

Here we describe the primary sections found on this site (present on the navigation bar found at the top of each page). For more information about site navigation please see the help page.

The Information section provides guidelines for authors and reviewers, contact information for the editorial office, a listing (with contact information) of Editors, Board Members, etc.

The Papers section provides facilities for authors and reviewers to view manuscripts (See facilities for additional details).

The Submission section provides facilities for the electronic submission of manuscripts and reviews to the editiorial office.

The Journal section provides information on subscribing to Icarus; the Tables of Contents, and a list of recently submitted papers to Icarus.

The Links section provides the reader with additional links to other websites of possible interest to Icarus readers.

The New section provides the reader with more timely (and temporary) information relevant to the journal or of interest to its readers.

The Help section offers some information that may aid the reader if problems are encountered when using this site.

This website provides facilities for electronic submission of manuscripts and reviews by file upload to the server via the link Submission which is present on the navigation bar at the top of each page.

Manuscript submission involves three steps. The first is to enter into textboxes the necessary contact information for the correspondence author and a cover letter for the submission (including reviewer suggestions). The second step is proofing the information entered in the first step (and possibly returning to the first step for corrections). The third step is designating files on the author's computer which will be uploaded to constitute the submitted manuscript.

Authors are urged to consult Information for Authors prior to preparing or submitting a manuscript. Authors should particularly note that electronic submission can be accepted only for manuscripts prepared by a specific suite of software packages and that files to be uploaded must bear specifically prescribed filename extensions.

Revised versions of manuscripts may be submitted by the same procedure. The accompanying cover letter should note that the submission is a revised version and specify the manuscript number assigned to the original submission.

Authors are advised that for site security reasons there are limitations on the number of files, and on their total size, which may be uploaded in a given submission, and on the number of submissions allowed from a given IP address in one day. If you find that you are frozen out, please contact the editorial office (or wait a day).

Reviewers should consult Information for Reviewers for guidelines and evaluation criteria, and also for instructions on submitting a review.

All manuscripts, whether submitted electronically or as hardcopy, will be posted on this website. Reviews will also be posted for author access only as they become available. Authors may view their own manuscripts, the reviews, and a calendar that describes the status of the processing of that manuscript by logging in to the site using a special username and password that will be assigned when the manuscript is submitted. Reviewers may also access the posted manuscripts to which they are assigned, using a different username and password provided when they agree to review. To access the site as an author or reviewer, follow the instructions in Manuscript Access, which is found under Papers on the navbar. Assigned usernames and passwords will be required.

All manuscripts, and most other associated documents, are posted as PDF files; opening these files requires the Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0 or equivalent software. Please see the help pages for information on obtaining and on using the Adobe Reader to view and download files.
